π Ocean Saving Art π¨
Art Elevating Conservation π
The Mediterranean is one of the most beautiful yet overfished oceans π, falling victim to commercial trawlers whose heavy nets scrape the sea bottom raw πβ, destroying fragile ecosystems πͺΈ.
Though trawling has been outlawed along coastlines βοΈ, it remains lucrative and difficult to police π¨.

Now, conservationists in Tuscany are using art to save the sea ππ.
They are sinking sculpted blocks of marble πͺ¨ just off the shore, creating creative barriers to deter trawler nets π’, provide artificial reefs π±π , and generate eco-tourism ππΈ.
The project, called the βHouse of Fishβ π π, is the brainchild of Italian fisherman Paolo Fanciulli. He received 100 donated 15-ton marble blocks from the Carrara Quarry, famed for providing marble to Michelangelo π¨ποΈ.
Sculptors from around the world π volunteered their talents, and as of 2021, 39 massive carvings had been submerged along the Tuscany coastline π.
This massive effort has completely stopped the trawling π, bringing the area back to life π±. More fish π , lobsters π¦, and even dolphins π¬ have returned to the coastβsome for the first time in decades.
It has also become an underwater museum ποΈπ.
The extraordinary success of the βHouse of Fishβ project has attracted worldwide attention πβ¨ and is paving the way to save even more ocean life ππ.
