Sustainable building materials are a great answer to traditional, toxic construction methods, but now, some are easier to work with than others.

Canadian company “Just BioFiber” have invented hempcrete building blocks that stack like Legos.

These blocks have no concrete in them, yet they maintain the load-bearing capacity of concrete

At 25 pounds each, the blocks are lighter, nontoxic, fire resistant, and provide ten times the insulating value of concrete.

They also regulate humidity, sequester carbons, and reduce noise.

Since they contain no sand, they can be cut with standard tools.

They also provide good insect and mold resistance, at roughly two-thirds the cost of traditional concrete blocks.

Mortar or hemp glue can be used to hold them together.

Walls can easily be finished off with stucco or plaster, creating a sustainable structure that will last at least, one hundred years.

The blocks can be assembled quickly and integrated into existing projects, in everything from residential to commercial to construction.

What's more, the hemp used to create them is a rapidly renewable crop that can be grown in just 90 days.

Block-by-block, these hempcrete "Legos" are helping to build a future that's a win-win, for people and the planet.
